Posted on Monday, July 21, 2008

The Network -noun
1. connecting people connecting with God
2. a gathering of college age people with a passion for Christ. The purpose is simple: to come together to encourage one another, study God's word and pray together.

Seriously though, if you have a heart to teach others a book of the Bible or go through a book study or maybe a prayer group all you need to do is fill out an application. We have applications in the lobby on the Connect table at Renovate or you can download one to print.

This semester is going to be amazing!!

Macedonia Team Commissioning Service
Posted on Friday, August 08, 2008

We had a busy night this Thursday, August 7 at the commissioning service for our Macedonia mission team. The night held an awesome time of worship as always; this time with two worship teams, one of which will be traveling to Macedonia with the team to conduct concert outreaches. A funny but moving send-off video of the team was played before a prayer for the team, Skype chat with Tamara who has been in Macedonia all summer, and a surprise guest speaker, Pastor Skip Heitzig.

Pastor Skip taught on "Why we go," in reference to why we bother conducting missions. His main point stated simply that when someone becomes a disciple, they should then become an apostle, seeking to minister to the lost. After all, as his narrative put it, if a fisherman isn't fishing, can he really be a fisherman? The invitation of the night was to become fishers of men as God has called us...what an appropriate message for a commissioning service.

The Macedonia team heads out on Monday morning, August 11. Please remember to pray for them as they travel and minister to those in this country, and continue to pray for Tamara and her last two weeks in Macedonia before returning August 21. For a complete list of prayer requests, grab a Macedonia Prayer Card from the Resource Center at Renovate.

Stay up to date with the team blog.

Communion Night with Evan Wickham
Posted on Tuesday, July 08, 2008

This last Thursday, July 3 we were joined by guest musician Evan Wickham and his amazingly original worship. It was truly a blessing having him there to lead us in worship before service and afterward as we took communion. His song, "Hallelujah Jesus" perfectly testifies of the One for whom we live and the reason we meet each Thursday night.

"Keeper of the stars, Lord of time and space,
I will live my life lifting up your name.
Lover of my heart. God who came to save.
Thank you for the cross and the life you gave
Wonderful, powerful, Jesus is your name
Hallelujah Jesus, Hallelujah Jesus, Hallelujah Jesus
You are, the everlasting God."

Switchstaff with Ives
Posted on Friday, May 16, 2008

As many of you may have noticed, we had a temporary but pleasant change of faces this Thursday, May 15, as Calvary's Vertical High School Ministry leaders and pastor Nate Heitzig joined us for a night of worship and Bible Study.

The Switchstaff occurred to give incoming seniors a taste of Renovate while our leaders attend the Vertical Service this Saturday Night. And also gives us a chance to get to know more about another one of Calvary's student ministries and ways that we can serve our younger brothers and sisters in Christ.

We want to thank the Vertical worship team for a great time of worship, and guest band Ives for joining us with their original music as well as playing for Café Concert Nights while we enjoyed free coffee and fellowship.

St. Baldrick's Outreach
Posted on Monday, May 12, 2008

Nothing could be better than a group of people with different likes, beliefs, and views coming together for a truly awesome cause. Nothing that is, except for a group of Renovate students with the desire to spread the light and love of Jesus to children fighting cancer.

We hit up Tiguex Park on Saturday, May 10 to serve at the St. Baldrick’s event where a group of us helped with registration, talking with the kiddos, sharing testimonies, and even four, now bald individuals, shaved their heads to raise money for St. Baldrick's, the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research.

With razors buzzing, the many volunteers, shavees, shavers, and children enjoyed live music, testimonies from cancer patients and survivors, and an all around good time. Renovate alone raised $400 to contribute to the total $50,000 raised at the whole event.

Continue praying for this organization and the children as they continue to battle this sad disease, and praise God that He has given us another wonderful opportunity to reach out to the community with every gift He has given us. Including our hair!

Esterlyn at Renovate
Posted on Friday, May 09, 2008

We had a great time of worship this Thursday night (May 8) with guest band Esterlyn. With those in the band willing, ready, and wanting to serve God through their music, it is always a blessing to have them, and their lamps, at the Lobo. The great music was followed by a message from Nick on unity within the body of Christ, and how we, as brothers and sisters in our faith, ought to regard others higher than our self. (Philippians 2:1-4)

As a fun ending to the night, a few Renovators enjoyed an original board game version of hop-scotch outside of the Lobo Theater.

Renovate with MOI
Posted on Wednesday, April 16, 2008

The wonderful worship and original music of guest musician MOI filled the Lobo Theater on Thursday, April 10. We also heard a powerful message about "A Test You Don't Want to Fail," from Issac Lopez, Youth Pastor of Calvary Santa Fe. Looking at 2 Corinthians 13:5-6, Issac pointed out that life is full of tests, and that the Christian life is not an exception; however, there are vital steps we need to take in examining our individual walks with God.

Hilary Watson joined Renovate on Thursday, April 3 for an awesome time of worship. Her clear passion for God and using her gifts to bless Him were apparent and blessed the young crowd of college-age students.

Communion Night with Kristian Stanfill
Posted on Friday, March 28, 2008

Renovate rocked the Lobo Theater on Thursday, March 27 with the voices of many college-age students who lifted their voices in praise and worship to our Lord. Joined by guest musician Kristian Stanfill from the Passion Conference, the night was a vivid reminder of Christ's love for us as we spent time in worship, heard a powerful message of God's mercy and love from Pastor Nick, and took communion in remembrance of His ultimate sacrifice.

Special thanks to Kristian Stanfill and his band, and Jeff Trujillo and Billy Linnehan for the amazing music and worship that filled the night.

Passion Conference '08
Posted on Thursday, February 28, 2008

One God. One room. 6000 students with one passion. This was the scene in Dallas, TX as a multitude of college-age students gathered in the Nokia Theater for this year's Passion Conference.

Nick Crespo and 20 college-age students began the drive to Dallas on February 14 to go to Passion and spent the next two days growing, worshipping, and witnessing God in many ways. "Whatever expectations I had before going were met…and then some." remarks one of the students. "I'm not big on pushing many things," he says, "but WOW, this conference really opened my eyes and demanded me to take that next step in my walk."

The clear impact of the conference among the students shows a desire for revival among the youth of our nation. It is the seeking of God that brings this desire, and it is the obedience to God that allows the revival to come about.

Renovate with Bradley Hathaway
Posted on Friday, February 15, 2008

Over 150 college-age students showed up at the UNM SUB on February 14 to worship and fellowship with one another at the Renovate college ministry. The students and leaders enjoyed some wonderfully comical poetry from guest artist Bradley Hathaway. Hathaway's heartfelt, yet hilarious poems bring to life many of the flaws and imperfections that college age students face but do not always admit to.

In light of Valentine's Day, Pastor Nick gave a message on "Hope for the Hopeless Romantics," and how we can find our love in God and His pursuit of us. The night ended as Bradley Hathaway shared a poem with a UNM slam poetry reading. His words, though humorous, were a light in the sometimes dark world of this art.
